Money and Friends
Clear rules before you lend keep friendships from getting awkward.
Lending money to a friend means they use your money now and promise to give it back later. The tricky part is that money and friendship get tangled together, so if the payback is late, both people can start to feel awkward. Agreeing on the amount and the payback day BEFORE you lend keeps everything clear. A good rule many people use is to only lend what you'd be okay never getting back. 🤝
Words to know
5Lend
To let someone use your money and expect it back. Handing a friend $5 for lunch on Monday.
Borrow
To use someone else's money and promise to return it. You are the one who owes the $5.
Loan
Money that was lent and still needs to be paid back. That $5 is a loan until Friday.
Pay back
To return the money you borrowed, like you promised.
Gift
Money you give with no payback expected at all. Saying "keep it" turns the $5 loan into a gift.
